United Indig-nations

99-percents of the world, unite… or at least post on your social media pages:

Representatives of different social movements and protest groups around the world. from the Arab Spring movement to the Spanish 15M met Friday in Mexico City for the opening of a “global summit” of the “outraged”.

According to organizers, the purpose is “to relate and analyze the social uprisings and protest movements that emerged between 2010 and 2012″ and that spread through social networks in countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Libya, Morocco, Greece, Spain, United States, Chile and Mexico.

“What we’re finding in the experiences of the outraged, and with the protagonists of the Arab Spring is that technology can be used to do more than entertain or to give comfort. It can serve to convey ideas,” said summit coordinator, Enrique Marquez, head of Socialist International in Mexico.

Iranian, Egyptian, Tunisian, Spanish and Mexican bloggers will share their experiences and insights. Mexican writers Mexican writers Genaro Villamil, Paco Ignacio Taibo II and Fabrizio Mejia, joined by producer Epigmenio Ibarra, will hold a panel discussion on “The indignant world and the rebel: taking it off the streets”. Ramiro Guevara, brother of Ché, will also attend the event, taking place as part of the Global Presidium and American Committee of the International Union of Young Socialists.

Not that they ever changed anything, really, but I’m glad to see Mexico City’s intellectual community reasserting its long and hallowed tradition of talking about how to piss off the establishment.
